MA, MBA, Ph.D, APR . . . What are these letters worth?

In the workplace, different degrees and accreditations have value . . . or do they? Hear from experts in the field.

Dr. Rose Campbell of Butler University will present the case for a university degree and its impact on a career during the November luncheon. Bob Dittmer, APR and PR pro, will talk about the value of PRSA accreditation. Cindy Dashnaw, director of communications and marketing for the Eiteljorg Museum, will discuss her pursuit of a master's degree, plus how she values the degrees and accreditations of the people she hires.

The Hoosier Chapter's brief annual meeting will be conducted prior to the luncheon program. Two important items will be the election of officers for 2004 (see the proposed slate below) and a vote on proposed changes to the chapter's bylaws. The changes can be viewed at

The November luncheon also brings PRSAA students together with PR pros for "Half Day With a Pro." Students will shadow Hoosier Chapter pros in the morning and then attend the luncheon. The Joanne Dring Memorial Scholarship will be awarded to up to two deserving PRSSA students. Joanne served many years at the Indiana Hospital Association. She was not only an active PRSA member, but she was also a past president of the Hoosier Chapter (1985-86). Joanne was very well respected in the public relations field and well liked by those who were fortunate enough to know her. For that reason, the Hoosier Chapter established the Joanne Dring Memorial Scholarship following her death in the 1980s.

Hoosier Chapter enforces meeting registration deadline

In an effort to better facilitate meeting coordination efforts, the Hoosier Chapter will enforce the meeting registration deadline of 5 p.m. on the Friday prior to the meeting, effective with the November meeting. This means that attendees who register after this deadline will be charged the non-member rate of $25, regardless of whether or not they are members, as an incentive to register on time.

The Hoosier Chapter board approved this policy to encourage "on-time" registrations, which allows us to better coordinate the meal count with the Indianapolis Athletic Club, as well as to assist members who manage the meeting registration list, finances and other meeting coordination duties. In addition to announcing the policy change in this newsletter, PRSA members and guests will be notified on the meeting registration section of the PRSA Web site, through postcards mailed to members reminding them of the meeting, announcements made at the meeting and via the electronic meeting registration confirmation.

We encourage members and guests to make meeting reservations on a timely basis, and thank you for your understanding of this change to the registration policy.

-Lisa Dellinger, APR, and Anita Sipes, Meeting Coordinators

David Shank, president/CEO of Shank Public Relations Counselors, recently served as a judge for the Traverse Awards for the Kentucky Tourism Council, which "shines the spotlight on excellence in tourism marketing."
